Hi and welcome to Almost Home, an inviting and relaxing haven to spend some time while in Hico. We are located just a short stroll from our fabulous downtown where you’ll find our beautiful esplanade that stretches two full blocks on south Pecan Street. On either side you’ll find wonderful shops and antique stores to browse through at your leisure. |
When it’s time to stop and rest you can enjoy the comfort and shade of the gazebo or sit on one of the benches located in the middle of the street. You’ll be able to listen to the downtown music while you relax. Be sure to stop by the Billy The Kid Museum for some history of the legend and some Blue Bell ice cream.
Almost Home was built by J. C. Rodgers in 1896. Although the home was remodeled in 1970, it still has several original and unique features. A hitching post erected by Mr. Rodgers in 1898 still stands in front of the house to this day. The original front door with its stained glass now finds its home at the back of the house. The old kitchen sink is now located in the laundry room. The original toothbrush holder, soap dish, towel bars and etc. are in the king suite bathroom and much of the old woodwork still surround the doors and windows. |

The home has three bedrooms and two baths. The living room, dining room, kitchen and laundry room are common areas. The living room is the perfect place for kicking back and relaxing. Its furnishings are western but not rustic. A leather and fabric sofa along with comfortable chairs are nestled around the fireplace. The dining room holds a beautiful oak dining table and a matching buffet. |
The laundry room and kitchen are for your convenience and contain most items that you might need during your stay (laundry soap, pots and pans, etc.). The kitchen as well as each bedroom will be stocked with tea, specialty coffees, and coffee pots. Except for Tuesdays and Wednesdays when a meal voucher is offered to our famous Koffee Kup Restaurant, a beautiful homemade breakfast will be served at your convenience. There will be homemade bread or muffins and fresh fruit when in season. An assortment of cereals, coffee, tea, milk and juices will also be available and you'll find homemade cookies or brownies in the cookie jar. You may enjoy your meal at the dining room table or return to your room for some privacy.
